Curriculum - Pharmacy Technician - Full Course

A pharmacy technician doesn't just count pills!

 

To progress in the retail, healthcare, or government industries, they must master the fundamentals. A day in the life of a pharmacy technician includes memorizing drug names, their combinations, drug interactions, medical acronyms, prescription writing and interpretations. Knowing how to combine sterile and non-sterile goods, as well as formulations and delivery methods. Order entry and processing, inventory control, moral and legal considerations, and the administrative duties of pharmacy employees are all supported.

Module A

Pharmacy Foundations

Mod A provides an overview of the field's operations, perceptions, and requirements for becoming a well-rounded medical practitioner. Along with some fundamental mathematical review, the Top 200 medicines are provided, translation of prescriptions, and mastering the pharmaceutical language of sig codes.

Module B

Pharmacy Essentials

Aimed to introduce students to the rules and laws governing the pharmacy sector, highlighting the problems with drug errors, and help them become proficient with the metric system. The Top 200 drug list is still provided, along with information on the value of safety, all OSHA compliance requirements, and other translation techniques.

Module C

Pharmacy Actions

This course will introduce a variety of pharmaceuticals, with their strengths, dosages, and modes of administration. It is intended to highlight the fact that drugs should never be administered until their intended use, potential adverse effects, safety measures, and prescribed dosages are understood. To compute oral dosages and educate about the various drug-related issues brought on by drug interactions. Module D

Pharmacy Therapeutics

It is crucial for students to learn about the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of every bodily system. Here, students will visit the science behind the human body, the various ailments that can affect it, and the kinds of drugs that are used to treat those ailments. To be able to compute parenteral dosages, recall medical terminology, and know the most useful medical acronyms. More prescription translation and the Top 200 medicine list.

Module E

Pharmacy Operations

This course covers third-party responsibilities from private and public insurances, how to manage drug inventories, and an introduction to the business side of the pharmacy industry. Special population dosages and business calculations are also covered along with prescription translation and the Top 200 medicine list.

Module F

Pharmacy Compounding

Get ready to learn about sterile and non-sterile products, and also aseptic compounding. Besides the the risk levels for different compounded preparations, emphasis is placed on the concepts and practices of quality assurance. All calculations will be on sterile and non-sterile compounding. More prescription translation is provided along with the Top 200 medicine list of drugs.

Module G

Pharmacy Capstone

This program course wraps us the course and serves as a review and exam prep for a nationally recognized pharmacy technician certification. In addition, the learner will have the opportunity to finish online practical labs and a virtual externship that replicates a simulated pharmacy setting. Before being registered for the official PTCB exam, students must pass a practice test administered by ELTC.
